What's involved in Junior Miss?

The main part of Junior Miss is the week before the program, when we learn the on-stage routines (opening number, fitness, self-expression) and practice putting everything together. Practices start the Saturday before the program and are held every day. We also have several other activities that are described later on this page.

What if I don't have a talent?

First of all, everyone has a talent. It could be anything.
Here's just a sample of some of the more nontraditional talents I've seen before: reading poetry (original or already published), setting up an easel and drawing on stage, dressing up as an old lady and dancing around, comedy monologues, even just talking about other hobbies you may have (quilting, swimming, soccer, etc.). Just use a little imagination!

How much does it cost?

There is no registration fee for being in Junior Miss. We do ask that you participate in a few fundraisers, but they're not mandatory for being in the program. You don't even need to go out and buy any special
clothes. The basic rundown of the clothes you need goes like this:
Interview: Business Attire, suits, slacks.
Opening Number: This could be a wide range of things, depending on the theme
Talent: It's up to you what you wear for talent, as long as it's appropriate
Poise: Evening/Prom dress
Fitness: Black shorts, mostly white tennis shoes (T-shirts are provided)

What if I don't have any dance experience?

Don't worry about it! The routines are simple enough that anyone will be able to do them by the end of the week. And if you're having problems just get a group of friends together to work on them. You really don't have to be afraid of any of the routines, even if you've never danced before in your life!

Are there any other activities involved with Junior Miss?

We have a few fun activities that are part of the program and take place throughout the summer and during the week of Junior Miss. These can range from baseball games to community service activities. While none of these are required we encourage you to come. The more activities you come to the more you'll get out of your Junior Miss experience!

I've heard something about finding a sponsor. Do I need to worry about that?

Yes, we do ask that you find a sponsor. This could be any business or civic organization. It should not be your parents themselves or their company, however, unless there is someone else who is in charge of it. Sponsors make a donation and then encourage their contestants throughout the week. If you're worried about finding a sponsor we would be more than willing to help you out, though. Don't be afraid to ask!

OK...so how do I get signed up?

Step 1. Follow this link in order to put your name in the America's Junior Miss database. Please make sure that all of the information you put on there is correct. The Avon's Junior Miss will then have access to this information. As of right now all we really need is your contact info to keep you informed of updates.

Step 2. You will be sent an email from Junior Miss explaining the rest of the application process. Save this email! This contains important information you'll need later. Feel free to login and look around, but we would advise you to no fill out any of the other information forms yet. We'll give you more detailed instructions at a later date.

*NOTE* If you don't receive the email from Junior Miss, check your "Bulk" or "Junk" folder. If it's not there, go here to receive information on how you can correct the problem.

Step 3. We'll email you with more information. You need to be registered by May 25!
